Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Landscape with Waterfall and Fishermen, manner of Salvator Rosa (Arenella, Naples 1615 – Rome 1673), mid 17th - mid 18th century. A horizontal landscape with figures by a rocky stream on the right and an italianate church with a campanile on top of a hill on the left. A waterfall at the left with buildings at the top behind; a fisherman by the water's edge; rocks at the right, a partly split tree and two fishermen resting.
Provenance
Probably brought from Wavendon by Sir Henry Hugh Arthur Hoare 6th Bt (1865 - 1947) and Alda Weston, Lady Hoare (d.1947) between 1894 and 1898; given to the National Trust along with the house, its grounds, and the rest of contents by Sir Henry Hugh Arthur Hoare, 6th Bt (1865 – 1947) in 1946; lent by the National Trust successively to Peckover and Mompesson House.
