2 Willow Road
The Hungarian-born architect Ernö Goldfinger designed 2 Willow Road in 1939 as a home for himself and his family. It forms part of a terrace of three houses in Hampstead, the street front façade of which is dominated by the use of red brick, exposed load-bearing columns and a stretch of continuous windows across the first floor. Inside, a central spiral staircase designed by Danish engineer Ove Arup services each floor without requiring large landing spaces. This, coupled with the fact that the building is supported by an external concrete frame, makes for spacious and unencumbered interiors.
