The nine rustic cottages, set around a green, of Blaise Hamlet were designed by John Nash for the Quaker banker and philanthropist, John Harford.
Blaise Hamlet is a unique, picturesque ‘mini-village’ of nine cottages built for pensioners from the Blaise Castle Estate. This early example of a planned settlement was designed by John Nash and built in 1810. Each of the cottages is individual and set around a tranquil central green. The hamlet was one of the first examples of a planned community and there is a stone sundial and water pump on the green which commemorates its construction.
