A collection of carved oak furniture (including a good example of a traditional Westmorland carved chair dated 1742); and Browne family drawings and photographs. Also a remarkable and unique collection of books (1331 titles) belonging to a family of yeoman farmers, with its origins ca. 1600. The majority of the books listed in an inventory of 1748 are still present. Rich in human interest, with many annotated books, the library also contains a considerable number of early books not known in any other collection, including over 70 otherwise unknown to the English Short Title Catalogue, and a collection of Cumbrian and other chap books.
