Owletts, Kent
This collection has 2,301 items online
Owletts was the birthplace and family home of the leading architect Sir Herbert Baker (1862-1946). It is fine example of late 17th century domestic architecture and retains an outstanding naturalistic plasterwork ceiling from 1684 above a staircase of similar date. The prinicipal rooms were sensitively remodelled by Baker in the 1920s and are today displayed complete with contents from this time. Mementos from Baker's time spent working successfully in South Africa and India can be found dotted around within this comfortable domestic setting.
