Dyffryn Gardens are an exceptional example of Edwardian garden design. They were designed by the landscape architect Thomas Mawson and were the vision of early 20th century industrialist John Cory and his son Reginald Cory. Covering more than 55 acres they feature a stunning collection of unique ‘rooms’ which range from vast expanses with grand vistas to intimate spaces including a rose garden, a Pompeian garden and several ponds. Overlooking the garden is the large Victorian mansion, built in 1893-4 under the ownership of John Cory, by architect E.A. Lansdowne of Newport. One of the last large country manors to be built in Wales, Dyffryn House boasts numerous impressive chimneypieces. Parts of the ground and first floors were extensively remodelled in 2012.
