Sutton Hoo, Suffolk
This collection has 4,514 items online
On the brink of the Second World War, Mrs Edith Pretty instigated the excavation of a burial mound on her estate. The excavations led to the greatest archaeological discovery ever made in the British Isles. Today the original finds form one of the key collections of the British Museum. The exhibition of replicas at Sutton Hoo shows them in their splendour as they would have been when used by the Anglo-Saxon kings of East Anglia. Objects associated with Mrs Pretty and the excavations are also displayed.
