Signed on the rock at the bottom left, this painting by Barend Gael shows a clearing among trees, with men on horseback, horses, dogs, and other figures. It was certainly at Dyrham Park by 1839, when it and its pendant were listed in the inventory, but it may well have been purchased by William I Blathwayt (?1649–1717), who formed the collection of Dutch pictures at Dyrham.
