Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Classical Figures in an Italian Landscape by Jan Frans van Bloemen, called Orizzonte (Antwerp 1662 – Rome 1749). A wooded river landscape with a town with a high tower in the middles distance and mountains beyond. A male traveller, sitting on a rock with his staff resting against it in the foreground, in red drapery, converses with a standing and a recumbent woman on a path.
Provenance
Purchased by Ralph Stawell Dutton (1898–1985), 8th & last Lord Sherborne, from Colnaghi, in 1960 (bill 24 August 1960); bequeathed to the National Trust by Ralph Stawell Dutton, with the rest of the collections, house, gardens and estate of Hinton Ampner.
