Summary
A marquetry inlaid olivewood, walnut and barberry table box, English, circa 1700. Later converted to a display case, the hinged lid inlaid with an oval panel depicting flowers and birds within an 'oyster' border and conforming corner panels. The box cross banded and inlaid with further floral panels.
Provenance
Recorded in 1944 Powis Inventory as ‘A 23in Queen Anne walnut and marqueterie lace box and rising lid' in Round Room (Her Ladyship's Bedroom) (Lower Tower bedroom). Accepted by HM Treasury on 21st March, 1963 in lieu of tax and conveyed to National Trust ownership on 29th November 1963.
