Caption
This provincial portrait probably shows the four children of John Ivory Talbot (?1691 – 1772): John (1717-1778); Thomas (1719-1758); Martha (1720-1790); and Ann (1723-1752). The style of painting and manner of dress would suggest a dating that would fit this theory. John Ivory Talbot married Mary, daughter of Lord Mansel of Margam. Their daughter, Martha (c.1722 – 1790), shown here, married the Rev. William Davenport, and inherited Lacock on the death of her brother.
