Oil painting on canvas, An Unknown Gentleman, manner of Edward Bower (fl. London 1629 – d.London 1667), circa 1630-1640. A three-quarter-length portrait of an unknown man, almost facing the viewer, wearing a black doublet slashed with white, a lace collar and cuffs, his left hand on his hip and his hat in his right hand.

Given by Matilda Theresa Talbot (formerly Gilchrist-Clark) (1871 – 1958), who gave the Abbey, the village of Lacock and the rest of the estate to the National Trust in 1944, along with 96 of the family portraits and other pictures, in 1948
