Summary
Oil painting on canvas, An Extensive Mountain Landscape with Figures and Sheep, attributed to Ignacio De Iriarte (Azcoitia 1621- Seville 1670).
Provenance
Bought by Charles Winn in the 19th Century as a painting by the Spanish master, Murillo, probably one of the ‘Murillo landscapes' acquired for Charles by the Bristol picture dealer, George Fabricius from ‘Colonel Schaples' in the early 1830s. In July 1830, the picture restorer, Mr Jennings wrote to Charles `I have this day forwarded the case containing Mr Fabricius's Murillo landscape to the White Horse, Cripplegate, to go by Deacon's van, which I hope will arrive safe ~ Landscapes by Murillo of that size and quality are rarely to be met with'; thence by descent until purchased by the National Trust by private treaty sale from Lord St Oswald in 2010.
