Summary
Oil painting on canvas, The Residenzschloss, Dresden, German School, indistinctly signed and dated ‘1671’; the palace inscribed ‘MAGDEBURG ENSIS’ and ‘MAURITIUS’ DEI GRATIA DUX SAXONIAE[linked]SAC’. A group of soldiers in a formal group in the courtyard of the schloss at Dresden with open arcades in the centre under a clock tower.
Provenance
Probably is the picture for which, on 11 May 1829, Mr Charles Winn sent £21 to Pettingell, of Hull, for the purchase of the “Picture by Van Brugh" This and P/16 of military processions were acquired by John Winn whilst on the Grand Tour, circa 1817. After John's untimely death in 1817, they were temporarily stored in the Top Hall, where they are listed as '2 Paintings Palace & Review' in the 1818 inventory;
