Summary
Oil painting on canvas, relined on board (a rectangular painting, but an oval was once cut from, but later replaced, the middle of the canvas), Called the Hon. Francis Robartes (1650-1718) as a Boy, English School, circa 1700. A three-quarter length portrait of the son of the 1st Earl of Radnor, in a velvet blue coat, looking to the to the left, head facing, before an archway through which is seen a bookcase. On a table in front of him on the left are a drawing book, dividers and a score of music. In his right hand he holds a drawing or engraving of the head of an old man, which he is copying with a ponte crayon. On the right , behind him is a large globe and a mandolin propped up against it.

Adlington Hall, Cheshire (Isabella daughter of, Robert Robartes Viscount Bodmin (1633 - 82) married John Legh of Adlington in 1693); acquired by Victor, 8th Viscount Clifden (1887 - 1974) and presented to the National Trust in 1957.
