Summary
Guglet or bottle vase, porcelain, pear-shaped, with a globular ‘bulb’ below the rim, made in Jingdezhen, Jiangxi Province, China, Qianlong period (1736–95), second half 18th century, decorated in underglaze blue with round cartouches composed of floral motifs containing vingettes in the famille rose (‘pink family’) palette in pink, red, green, yellow, brown and black enamels of figures on terraces, surrounded by further underglaze blue flowers and famille rose flower sprays, the bulb with a band with a hexagonal pattern in underglaze blue, the rim with a band of downward-pointing spearheads in gold.

Accepted by HM Government in lieu of inheritance tax and allocated to the National Trust, 1957.
