Summary
Two guglets or bottle vases (similar but not a pair), porcelain, pear-shaped, with a globular ‘bulb’ below the rim, made in Jingdezhen, Jiangxi Province, China, Qianlong period (1736–95), second half 18th century, decorated in underglaze blue with round cartouches composed of floral motifs and butterflies containing vingettes in the famille rose (‘pink family’) palette of figures on terraces, and with further underglaze blue and famille rose decoration on the necks.
Provenance
Accepted by HM Government in lieu of inheritance tax and allocated to the National Trust, 1957.
