Summary
Guglet or bottle vase, porcelain, pear-shaped, with a globular ‘bulb’ below the rim, made in Jingdezhen, Jiangxi Province, China, Qianlong period (1736–95), second half 18th century, decorated in underglaze blue with round cartouches composed of floral motifs and butterflies containing vingettes in the famille rose (‘pink family’) palette in red, purple, orange, green, yellow, brown and black enamels of figures on terraces, surrounded by further underglaze blue flowers sprays and cartouches with famille rose floral motifs, the bulb and rim with bands of diaper and hexagonal patterns in underglaze blue.

Accepted by HM Government in lieu of inheritance tax and allocated to the National Trust, 1957.
