Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Dinefwr Castle from the North, Welsh School, circa 1710-20. By the end of the 17th century the woods surrounding Dinefwr castle had been landscaped into private pleasure grounds and an ornamental building had been installed in the keep for scenic viewing and picnics. Two women play a game of hoop and stick while a bull bounds playfully towards them. One of a set of four views (NT 869191-869194).
Provenance
According to Joseph Gulston at Newton House in circa 1784, in the Closet of a Bed Chamber and thence by descent; acquired by the National Trust from Richard Charles Uryan Rhys, 9th Baron Dynevor (1935 – 2008), with the aid of the NHMF in 1997.
