Caption
This landscape by Jacob More, the 'Scottish Claude' (1740-1793), is the only known survivor of at least fourteen pictures painted for Frederick Hervey, 4th Earl of Bristol and Bishop of Derry (1730-1803). More moved to Rome in the early 1770s and remained in Italy for the rest of his life. He specialised in painting ideal landscapes for Grand Tourists and Italians alike. More acted for the Earl-Bishop not only as an artist, but also as a dealer, agent and informant.
