Oil painting on canvas, Wooded Landscape with Figures and a Barn by John Rathbone (Cheshire c.1750 - London 1807) and George Morland (London 1763 – London 1804), signed J Rathbone / G Morland. One of a pair of wooded landscapes. This one has a barn on the left edge and a tree right of centre.
Provenance
Probably acquired by Sir Thomas Dalrymple Hesketh 3rd Bt (177-1842) and thence by descent; in the Garden Hall at Rufford Old Hall, 1889; in the Dining Room, c. 1910; sold at auction at the Sotheby's sale at Easton Neston, Northamptonshire, 17-19 May 2005, lot 34 (pair); purchased by the National Trust from the buyer at that sale.
