Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Sir Francis Child the Younger (1684-1740) as a Boy by Jan van der Vaardt (1647-1727). A three-quarter-length portrait, of the seventh son of Sir Francis Child the elder and his wife Elizabeth Wheeler. He is wearing a blue coat, holding a gun, which can be dated to between 1680/1713, a dog at his side and an evening landscape beyond. He later became Lord Mayor of London in 1732 and died unmarried.

Possibly one of 9 ‘Family Pictures’ listed in the ‘South Wing Passages’ in 1782; on loan from the Earldom of Jersey Trust.
