Summary
An elm and ash desk chair, or corner chair, English, circa 1770. With a serpentine toprail above a pierced baluster-shaped splat on a bowed arm supported on three ring-turned balusters and two more conforming splats. The seat made of woven rush and raised on four chamfered square-section chamfered legs joined by plain foot stretchers.
Provenance
Listed in Mr. Kipling's Work Room in the inventory taken at Bateman's in 1939. Bequeathed by Caroline Starr Balestier, Mrs Rudyard Kipling (1862-1939) with Bateman’s and its contents.
