Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Henry Hoare (1784 - 1836) as a Boy by Samuel Woodforde, RA (Ansford 1763 - Ferrara 1817), circa 1795. A portrait of the son of Sir Richard Colt Hoare, 2nd Bt (1758 - 1838) as a boy. He is shown three-quarter length, leaning on a table against a wall on the left but looking to the right and supporting himself on his right elbow, holding a quill pen and pointing with his right index finger onto the table above the sheets of paper. He wears a red coat with gold epaulettes, white stock and blue waistcoat. Two more quills rest in an ink pot on the right.
Provenance
Given to the National Trust along with the house, its grounds, and the rest of contents by Sir Henry Hugh Arthur Hoare, 6th Bt (1865 – 1947) in 1946.
