Summary
Oil painting on canvas, A Rocky Landscape by Thomas Barker (Pontypool 1769 – Bath 1847), in the manner of Salvator Rosa. Three figures have ascended to a rocky ledge, where pine trees are growing. On the left, a high rock emerges on the far side of a gorge and a valley extends into a mountainous landscape in the distance beyond.
Provenance
Introduced between 1838 and 1898; given to the National Trust along with the house, its grounds, and the rest of contents by Sir Henry Hugh Arthur Hoare, 6th Bt (1865 – 1947) in 1946.
