Two figures are regarding a waterfall, which cascades down between trees and rocks. The artist has included them to give us the sense of scale. It was called 'Mr Bam's Waterfall' as Coplestone Warre Bampfylde, artist of imaginary landscapes and a friend of Henry Hoare and who helped design the waterfall below the lake at Stourhead, also made this landscape garden at Hestercombe near Taunton.

Provenance
Bought by Henry Hoare II (1705-85) in 1770. Given to the National Trust along with the house, its grounds, and the rest of contents by Sir Henry Hugh Arthur Hoare, 6th Bt (1865 – 1947) in 1946.
