Summary
Oil painting on canvas, A Pastoral Landscape by Francesco Zuccarelli RA (Pitigliano 1702 - Florence 1788), circa 1730-52. On the left, a herdsman is driving cattle across a brook and in the distance is a walled town with mountains beyond. The herdsman greets two shepherds, a woman and a boy, who are seated by the water's edge at centre right. The woman holds aloft a staff and there is a basket on the grass beside her. Behind them, a woman wearing a pink skirt holds a water jug on her head. She stands beside a turreted fountain behind which is a tall tree with forked branches and, at the far right, an arched bridge over a river.
