Summary

Part of a chemistry set in a wooden box. The pieces are as follows; One pair of metal tongs with scissor handles, slightly rusty. One pair of metal tongs with a circular spiral at one end. The other end has a single hook shape, opposite a double hook shape made up of two parallel lines. Metal discs are placed on the sides, presumably to hold the tongs in place. One long black painted metal tube tapering at one end. At the larger end protrudes a yellow metal tube at a right angle to the main part. The larger end is closed, but the small end is open. Two small metal clamps with eyes at one end. Attached to the eye is a straight part consisting of two parallel lines. These criss-cross each other at right angles at the bottom, turn a right angle and end with two small circular discs. One is plain, the other painted black. Two additional metal clamps. These consist of a central column with a screw thread. This is inside a metal frame with two horizontal pieces, and two vertical pieces. The bottom vertical piece hinges outwards. One is a darker colour than the other. Two pieces of gauze of different sizes with a white painted circle in the centre. Total number of items is 9.

Provenance

Donated to the Museum of Childhood by Miss E Grimwood Taylor in 1984.
