Summary
A pair of boy's trousers or breeches, part of a three piece 'sailor' style half-mourning suit (circa 1871), consists of a cream linen jacket, trousers and waistcoat. The trousers open at the front and fasten with four round metal, gold coloured buttons. The have four button holes at the waistband. The waistband is finished with white edging. the trousers have a pocket on the right hand side. Each leg has five mother of pearl buttons down either side, with a metal one at the top. Either side of the buttons are two rows of green braiding. Total number of items is 3.
Provenance
This suit is part of a set of mourning clothes belonging to a boy called Travers Buxton (born 10.12.1864) who wore them on the death of his mother in 1871.
