Oil painting on canvas, Margaret Molyneux, Mrs John Warren, aged 50 by British (English) School, inscribed; AETATIS SUAE 50 ANO.DOM: 1595 - 18th century. A half-length portrait of a woman, turned slightly to the left, gazing at the spectator, wearing a black dress with white ruff and black cap, holding a red book open with her right hand, her left hand also across her body, below the right hand. With coat of arms in the top corner of the painting. (Aged 50 in 1595) Dated 1595. Daughter of Richard Molyneux of Sefton and wife of John Warren of Poynton. English.
Provenance
Vernon collection transferred to the Treasury in 1967 following death of 9th Lord Vernon, and transferred to The National Trust in 1967.
