Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Three Boy Martyrs attributed to Giovanni Antonio Galli, called Lo Spadarino (Siena 1585 - 1651/3), first half of 17th century. Three boys, half-length, carrying palm leaves; the boy in the centre, turned slightly to the left, gazing at the spectator, wears a red cloak over his white shirt and carries a palm in his left hand; the child at the left, in blue, facing, head turned to right profile, holding a palm in his left hand; the third child, on the right, turned slightly to the left, glancing down over the shoulder of the central boy.
Provenance
Presumably acquired by William, 3rd Baron Berwick (1773-1842) and recorded in the 1847 inventory; bequeathed to the National Trust in 1947 with the estate, house and contents of Attingham by Thomas Henry Noel-Hill, 8th Baron Berwick (1877-1947) on 15th May 1953.
