Summary
Oil painting on canvas showing a landscape with village and figures and a boats on water. One of the boats has an orange tricolour, flag of the United Provinces (Netherlands). Signed Rysdael 1652'. Fitted as overmantel. No attribution is claimed in 1909 or 1930 inventories and 1954 guidebook suggests the signature is a forgery.
Provenance
This work has been in place since at least 1901, unclear if it was added by Frank Green or was already in situ by the time he purchased the property. Gift of Francis 'Frank' William Green FSA (1861-1954) 1930.
