Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Prince George of Denmark (1653–1708), manner of Michael Dahl (Stockholm 1656/9 – London 1743). A large three-quarter-length portrait of Prince George of Denmark, positioned to the left with a direct gaze with the spectator. He is standing, wearing a long brown wig and is dressed in ornate blue and red garter robes. His left hand is leaning on a table with scroll detail to the corner. A hat with white feather plumage is placed on the table. Prince George of Denmark (1653–1708), was the Consort of Queen Anne. This painting is a pair with NT 533847. Purchased 1837 when the artist was believed to be Sir Godfrey Kneller.
Provenance
Presented to the National Trust by Sir Montgomerie Fairfax-Lucy (1896 – 1965), two years after the death of his father, Sir Henry Ramsay-Fairfax, 3rd Bt (1870 – 1944), with Charlecote Park and its chief contents, in 1946.
