Caption
This picture and its companion piece, also at Anglesey Abbey, is probably a fragment of a much larger picture. They were both designated to fill panels in a room. Francis Barlow was a painter of animals, birds, and country life. His work can be seen at other National Trust Houses, such as Ham and Clandon Park. Compositionally his work can be weak, but the animals and foul are usually well-observed. He is thought to have died in poverty. This panels approximate his style, but are not by the artist himself.
