Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Landscape with Two Monks, after Richard Wilson, RA (Penegoes 1714 – Mold 1782), 19th century. Wooded rocky landscape, with trees on the right and behind a river in the centre, with a small waterfall, above a rock on the left is a ruined castle and behind the woods on the other side of the river is the outline of a castle or town; in a clearing in the left foreground, two monks, one dressed in white holds up a crucifix and kneeling at the right of him is another monk dressed in black.
Provenance
Bequeathed to the National Trust by Huttleston Rogers Broughton, 1st Lord Fairhaven (1896-1966) with the house and the rest of the contents.
