Summary
Part of linen dress stitched in brown silk with caterpillars and snails placed between scrolling foliage, blackberries and grapes. Also a piece of blue silk embroidered with foliate spray. Gilt card mount with a shaped aperture for each textile, glazed in giltwood frame. Inscribed - Part of a Sofa Cover belonging to Queen Marie Antoinette, said to be her own work. It was given to Clementina Marshall by Lady Maria Pinfold, a daughter of the Marquis of Bute. Part of a dress of Queen Elizabeth given to GM Benthall by Rev JH Spokes of Barton-le-Cley. It had belonged to Miss Sharp of Kitchen End, Pulloxhil (hand written note behind glass to back giving provenance details). 1400 - 1800 (circa).
