Summary
Oil painting on panel, A Nymph and a Satyr by Abraham Govaerts (Antwerp 1589 – Antwerp 1626). A wooded landscape with a sleeping naked nymph on the left and a satyr on the right, lifting a veil from her body, accompanied by two dogs. A town in the distance. The scene could be depicting Antiope, the daughter of Nycteus, regent of Thebes during the infancy of Labdacus who was seduced by Jupiter seduced in the form of a satyr. The result was the twins Amphion and Zethus.
