Summary
Bowl, porcelain, round and with the sides curving inwards to the base, made in Arita, Hizen Province, Japan, 1690–1700, decorated in underglaze blue and overglaze enamels and gilding in the Imari style with flowering plants and large stylised chrysanthemum flowers, the petals of which contain further vignettes of flowering plants.

Possibly referred to in the 1754 Belton inventory, room no. 39 (presumed to be the Chapel Drawing Room): ‘a fine old Japan bowl and cover’.
