Pair of covered bowls, porcelain, round with domed lids with strap handles, made in Arita, Hizen Province, Japan, 1690–1710, decorated in underglaze blue and overglaze enamels and gold in the Imari style with cherry trees and flowering plants growing from a rocky ground.

Possibly referred to in the 1754 Belton inventory, room no. 39 (presumed to be the Chapel Drawing Room): ‘2 small basons and covers’.
