Caption
An 18th century elm 'rent' chair with carved, shaped wings and solid back panel. It is called a ‘rent chair’ because on Quarter Days the Landlord would sit on the chair to collect rent from tenants. The dues would then be placed in the lockable drawer beneath the seat. Such chairs were sometimes used to keep small sickly lambs warm by the fire.
Summary

Provenance
Originally on loan and subsequently bequeathed to the National Trust from Miss P Fellows in 1993.
