Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Sir Henry Hobart, 4th Bt (c.1658-1698) by Sir Godfrey Kneller (Lübeck 1646/9 - London 1723) or Willem Wissing (Amsterdam 1656 - Burghley House 1687). A three-quarter-length portrait, facing, gazing at the spectator, resting on his left elbow, long dark wig, lace cravat, breastplate, full white sleeves, blue cloak. Landscape seen through window at right. Gilt name plate on frame 'Sir Henry H...'. The victim of the notorious Cawston duel, and the father of 1st Earl of Buckinghamshire.
