Oil painting on canvas, Gilbert Coventry, 4th Earl of Coventry (c.1688 - 1719) with Two Huntsmen in a Landscape by John Wootton (Snitterfield c.1682 – London 1765), signed bottom mid-right: J Wootton (J & W in ligature), 1714 and possibly with the assistance of Thomas Gibson (c.1680 – London 1751).
Provenance
Commissioned by Gilbert, Earl of Coventry, and thence by inheritance and descent through his daughter, Lady Anne Coventry, Lady Carew. Accepted by H M Government in lieu of Inheritance Tax and allocated to the National Trust, 1997 (from the estate of Sir John Carew Pole, 12th Bt (1902 - 1993).
