Summary
Oil painting on canvas A River Landscape flanked by Trees by George Lambert (Kent c.1700 – London 1765), signed 'G Lambert 1748' overwritten or added. Two figures and a dog meet on a path in the foreground which leads through trees to the river, by which stands a house on the left, and a barge goes down it to the right. Distant landscape, framed by trees.

Sir Drummond Spencer-Smith, 5th Bt (1876–1955), sold Sotheby's, 22 June 1949 [Lot 67] as G. Lambert; an upright landscape with figures, looking through trees to a lake with a distant view, a horse on the left; bought Gooden & Fox; Harry Lawrence Bradfer-Lawrence (1887-1965) by whom sold to Colnaghi 17 July, 1957. Purchased by Langton, 2nd Baron Iliffe for Basildon Park, Berkshire, 20 December 1957. Purchased by the National Trust for Basildon Park, 1978
