Caption
The sitter is Sir Thomas Cambell (?1536/7 - 1613/14), aged 74 in 1611. His coat of arms is in the top right corner. He was twice Master of the Ironmongers in 1605 and 1605. Here he is wearing the red and black robes of office as Lord Mayor of London which he was in 1609-11, with a ruff collar and black hat and wearing a chain, with a portcullis and a richly jewelled pendant, holding gloves and wearing rings including one with a skull.

A coat of arms in top right corner: sable, on a fess, between 3 lions haeds crossed, both or, many ogresses [converted in to black rundels -= pellets?] A half-length portrait of Sir Thmas Cambell, twice Master of the Ironmomngers, 1605 & 1605, wearing red and black robes, ruff collar and black hat with chain, with portcullis with a richly jewelled pendant (as Lord Mayor) and skull on ring, gloves and rings of office.
Provenance
Bequeathed to the National Trust by Edgar Graham Lister (1873 – 1956) with the house and collection of furniture in 1956.
