Summary
Oil painting on canvas, View of Castel Gandolfo with Bathers, manner of Richard Wilson, RA (Penegoes 1714 – Mold 1782), late 18th century. This picture is similar to the Lake of Nemi, with Diana and Callisto on loan from the Hoare collection to Stourhead (NT 732391). Instead a male figure, possibly Apollo, stands on the right with his arm outstretched. The title suggests the lake depicted is Lake Albano but this could be wrong.Castelgandolfo is the summer residence of the popes. It was built for Urban VIII (1623-44) to the designs of Carlo Maderna.
