Summary
Oil painting on canvas, A Glorification of Prince Eugene (1663-1736) of Savoy's Victories over the Turks in Hungary and at Zenta and Belgrade in 1697 by Paolo De' Matteis (Salerno 1662 - Naples 1728). Prince Eugene with allegorical figures of Fame, Power and others and a coastal landscape with a view of the Battle of Zenta in Yugoslavia in 1697 where the Turks were crushed.
Provenance
Purchased by Ralph Stawell Dutton (1898-1985), 8th and last Lord Sherborne, from the Sabin Galleries, London, in 1960 (acknowledged in a receipt of 21 March 1960 for £250); bequeathed to the National Trust by Ralph Stawell Dutton, with the rest of the collections, house, gardens and estate of Hinton Ampner.
