Summary
Oil painting on canvas, A Waterfall amongst Rocks (possibly Tivoli) by Gaspard Dughet (Rome 1615 – Rome 1675), circa 1658/61. One of two Italianate landscape painitings with figures. Towering rocks with a mountain stream cascading down, and shaggy vegetation.
Provenance
Rodney Todd-White & Sons, London, no. 4147/N; purchased by Ralph Stawell Dutton (1898–1985), 8th & last Lord Sherborne, from Colnaghi (2nd August 1965; acknowledged in a bill dated 14 June 1965 in the Hinton Ampner archives); bequeathed to the National Trust by Ralph Stawell Dutton, with the rest of the collections, house, gardens and estate of Hinton Ampner.
