Summary
Oil painting on canvas, River Landscape, Jacob van Ruisdael (Haarlem 1828 - Amsterdam 1682). Peasants forming a dam in a river. A landscape with an expansive sheet of water covering the greater part of the scene, bounded by high banks covered with trees; the river flows towards the foreground, where four men are occupied in forming a dam with branches of trees, and a fifth, by appearance a gentleman, directs their work from the bank. At some distance a herdsman and flock are fording the river.
