Summary
Oil painting on canvas. An Unknown Captain of a Civic Guard Company, probably Dutch School, circa 1630. A half-length portrait of a man wearing the uniform of a company of a civic guard. The portrait is probably Dutch, part of a tradition of civic guard portraits. The sitter wears a tan leather jerkin over a black doublet with white collar and cuffs. Around his waste is a red sash and he wears a gorget. A sword and dagger hang from his belt and in his right hand he holds a tassled staff. The sitter is framed against a grey curtain and behind him is a helmet with ostrich feather plumes.
