Caption
This portrait seems to be very closely related to Michael Dahl’s other likeness of Mary Preston at Powis Castle (NT 1180910), and may be the product of the same sitting. This modest, highly conventionalised oval format, was used extensively by Dahl during the early eighteenth century, particularly for aristocratic female subjects.
